ASUCC Student Leadership team holds donation drive in conjunction with "Feed the 'Burg" event.

ROSEBURG, Oregon – With the holidays coming up, Umpqua Community College (UCC) wants to help those in need. The student leadership group called ASUCC is holding a donation drive to help Douglas County’s homeless, and they’re doing it in conjunction with a project called “Feed the ‘Burg.”

“Feed the ‘Burg” is a volunteer program dedicated to help those in need. Last year, ASUCC was approached to join the effort.

“It was a great project that we wanted to be a part of,” Robert Mountainspring-Wood, ASUCC Public Relations Officer, said. “Feed the ‘Burg sparked a chain of events, and when it came up again this year, we knew we had to help.”

ASUCC recommends donations such as shoes, mittens, hats, gloves, backpacks, blankets, sleeping bags, and socks be dropped off at the LaVerne Murphy Student Center. If people have items they want to bring in that are not on the list, ASUCC encourages bringing it in and asking if it will be accepted.

“If you have something you think someone can benefit from—something that can be put to use—feel free to bring it to us,” Mountainspring-Wood said. “The smallest things sometimes go the longest way.”

The deadline to donate is Saturday, Dec. 9. The donations received will be given out during this year’s “Feed the ‘Burg” event on Saturday, Dec. 23. It will take place at the Roseburg Senior Center located at 1614 SE Stephens Street. There will be music, crafts, and dinner. Doors open at 3 p.m., and dinner will be served between 3:30 and 6 p.m. This event is open to the public.
